About

Award winning photographer Astrid Schulz is known for creative portraits and documentary work. Originally from Hamburg, Germany, she lives in London, UK since 1994. With a background in costume design for film & TV she studied photography at London College of Communication from 2003-05.

Both of Astrid's careers feed into each other perfectly. Her documentary images were once described as 'well composed still life images from a movie set'. In her creative portraits one can usually find an element of 'costume language' and a strong sense for pattern and textures*.

Passionate about storytelling and transformation Astrid loves to explore what represents a person - or an entire community - by recording their characteristics and most intimate traits. She likes to work in series with a common thread and often travels the globe for assignments and personal work. Her work appeared in various book publicationsas well as magazines including British Journal of Photpgraphy, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, f-LIP Magazine, Chaeng Magazine, Fitzrovia Journal, Soho Journal, CNN Magazine, South-Pacific Magazine and Lonley Planet. Internationally recognized, she exhibits at festivals, solo shows and group exhibitions (details below).
