Thanks to my membership of the Camera Club, I would like to announce a party AND a new exhibition opportunity. In less than a month's time, we will celebrate the birthday of one of the oldest Camera Clubs in the UK, with our ‘Annual Member's Summer Show’. We are aiming to have about 50 - 60 images on display, one of which is from my archive: it is called Brexidee & Brexidum.
This making of this picture was inspired by the Brexit vote in 2016, when the UK Nation split into 52%-48% in favour of leaving the EU. The artistic execution sprang out of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Remember the chapter about Tweedledee and Tweedledum, when the twins prepare for battle, with Alice’s help. In order to create some PPE, Alice dresses the two boys with items found in their household, such as a coal scuttle and a saucepan as helmets, a tray for a shield and bolsters and wrap-around sheets.
I played with that idea and dressed the divided UK nation with discarded household items, plus objects found in the streets. Creative partner is Phil Philmar, who is also standing in as both battle partners. Are you able to guess which one is 52% and who is 48%?
I cannot believe that the big vote happened already 9years ago. I think it is time for a review – of the picture that is… It is going to be on display at Gallery 1885 at the Camera club real soon.
